![]() Joseph "Joe" Pilates (1881-1967) developed this method of conditioning that trains both body and mind. The movements work the deeper structural muscles as well as superficial muscles to increase muscular strength, achieve graceful movement, increase body awareness, improve postural alignment and breath control. They deliver simultaneous stretching and strengthening. Pilates is a non-high impact, balanced system that works as well for the elite athlete as it does for the injured. It is a system used by top performers, professional dancers, celebrities, and it can produce results regardless of age or fitness level.
Joe's Approach: If necessary, begin with the Reformer for foundational strength, then advance to Matwork for a greater challenge. Joseph Pilates preferred starting clients on the Reformer to develop strength, mobility, and control before transitioning to Matwork, which relies solely on body weight for resistance. For my clients, I customize each Pilates exercise session for your particular goals. Pilates offers an extensive repertoire of movements that can be modified and varied, so there is an endless number of Pilates exercises to offer for my clients wherever they are in their fitness journey. Pilates provides proper functionality, strength, stabilization, alignment and flexibility of muscles and joints and EVERYONE can benefit from Pilates. |
