About Jan
Jan McGrath is certified through Pilates Instructor Academy*, an intensive and comprehensive Pilates teacher training academy. She is also a neurocentric trainer, providing intelligent application of movement for clinical rehab to athletic performance with a neurological lens.
Jan is fully trained to teach Pilates on various apparatuses and has earned her Pilates certifications to teach:
Her training and education as a movement professional is ongoing providing exceptional value to clients.
Jan has completed specialty training for injuries and special populations including osteoporosis, scoliosis, osteoarthritis, disc herniation, knee, ankle, hip and shoulder injuries as well as prenatal Pilates. In addition, her training includes Pilates for men, athletic conditioning, and golf conditioning.
Added, she has 20 years of experience as a trained athlete including Muay Thai kickboxing, long distance running, squash, tennis, weight training and cross-fit interval training. However, due to multiple injuries and surgeries, her athletic progress stalled, and she realized she needed a different fitness program. Thus, Jan began her Pilates journey nearly 18 years ago. Chronic injuries, neck, shoulder, and low back pain went away and her weekly visits to the chiropractor ended since she practiced Pilates.
Her teaching is heavily influenced by her understanding and ongoing training in human anatomy, kinesiology, brain function, and neurobiomechanics.
Her dedication and keen sense of brain-based exercise innovation have benefited injury rehab and special population clientele as well as athletes, allowing her to help individuals achieve his or her individual goals in a healthy, appropriate, and proactive manner.
Jan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California and an MBA from University of La Verne.
*Pilates Instructor Academy exceeds the highest standards set in the Pilates, fitness and bodywork industries, and is recognized by leading authorities including The National Pilates Certification Program, The American Council on Exercise, and The National Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.

It is meaningful for me to see the impact and progression that my clients feel through the Pilates training I provide.
My hope is to care for your health holistically through different types of exercises starting with Pilates plus cardio training with proper recovery and rest. Through my own 18-year experience as an athlete, I have seen the effect that our lives can have on our bodies and the effect our bodies can have on our lives. Ultimately, my hope is that I can help you steward your health so that you can live life more fully with the people you love!
Many people come to Pilates after trying everything else - and never look back. "Why didn't I start this 20 years ago?" This is often wondered aloud. The true Pilates method will always be different to every other fitness regime.
Pilates done well rewards you with muscle control, increased suppleness, core connection, increased circulation, movement economy, and a clearer mental outlook.
Pilates Whole Body is a conditioning movement studio. This is the way I remember Pilates originally being taught to me. My at-home studio approach is different to recreational fitness or physio Pilates. I don’t offer group classes at my studio or set programs. I coach you – this is Pilates conditioning - training you to excel in your favorite physical activities from gardening to excelling athletically.
I help individuals through Pilates to access their core, re-balance musculature, manage effects of stress and strain, build strength and resilience, and learn basic home strategies.
I have designed my studio to personally guide individuals, from the inactive worker to the athletic, through various combinations of equipment and mat Pilates repertoire according to needs and goals. I know how your body should move.
My intimate in-home Pilates studio is downstairs and, if weather permits, sessions may move outside onto my balcony facing a beautiful view with sunshine and fresh air.
