About Jan
Jan McGrath, a lifelong well-rounded athlete, found her way into Pilates in the early 2000s, after multiple injuries and surgeries convinced her, she needed a different approach to fitness. With 20+ years of experience as a trained athlete in Muay Thai kickboxing, long distance running, squash, tennis, weight training and cross fit interval training, she suffered chronic pain in her neck, shoulder and lower back. Since she started practicing Pilates, that pain has gone away, as have her weekly visits to a chiropractor. Today, strong and always positive, Jan works tirelessly to educate her clients about the relationship between strong fitness, athletic conditioning, injury prevention and pain management.
Jan is certified to teach Pilates through Pilates Instructor Academy, an intensive and comprehensive Pilates teacher training academy that emphasizes anatomically based movement and is recognized by leading authorities including The National Pilates Certification Program, The American Council on Exercise, and The National Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. As a certified Pilates instructor, Jan creates safe and effective training programs to improve her clients’ health and fitness through Pilates exercises. She regularly teaches Pilates classes on various apparatuses and will work with you to determine which type of class best fits your body’s needs. Jan loves to help her client fall in love with Pilates by working with them to engage their core, re-balance musculature, manage effects of stress and strain, build strength and resilience, and learn basic home exercises.

Pilates Whole Body is a home-based conditioning movement studio. Jan’s at-home studio approach differs from recreational fitness or physio Pilates in that it is more intimate and focused on the individuals’ unique fitness needs. In her basement studio, Jan coaches her clients every step of the way, training them in appropriate forms of Pilates conditioning to meet their goals and get back to what they love doing most, whether it is horseback riding, gardening, skiing, pickleball or something else. When weather permits, she offers her clients the option to move outside onto her balcony, facing a beautiful view of the Black Hills, with sunshine and fresh air.
Whether she is coaching an athlete through an intense conditioning session or guiding a first-time Pilates student through basic movements on the mat, Jan strives to help her clients think holistically about their health. A holistic approach to health includes physical exercise as well as proper recovery and rest. Ultimately, she wants to help you steward your health so that you can live life more fully with the people you love!

...and see for yourself the incredible benefits that this one-of-a-kind movement-based exercise will have on your health!
